Stitching Layout

Go over to The Character Cafe on Blogspot and check out this week's challenge!! They have a challenge to use stitching in a layout or card. I have to also thank my friends in my yahoo group Scrappin-n-Chattin - Abby issued a similar challenge there for September. Challenges tend to motivate me!

Here is my take on that challenge:

I have and the items to do hand stitching on a layout for literally years (like maybe 5 - 10), and I have never done it! I have used machine stitching on a few cards and a couple of layouts, but I never tried the hand stitching. Well, enter a challenge to use stitching and this is what I came up with!

I love how the circles and the stitched circles really compliment the photo and the designer cardstock. I took a cardstock with a design, then used my craft knife to cut around my favorite parts of the design. I layered that over a solid blue cardstock and the photo to allow the swirls to accent the photo. I added rhinestones to the centers of the swirls, flowers and circles using blue and green stones to compliment the colors of the layout.

The stitching is 3 strands of green floss using a running stitch. I mimicked the circles from the designs in the cardstock. It is a simple layout, but the colors really pop with the photo.

Thanks for taking a look!
